This initial evaluation may take up to 30- 60 minutes. Subsequent appointments usually take about 20 to 30 minutes. A treatment plan for a single condition may involve one or two sessions a week. The number of sessions will depend on the condition and its severity. Generally, it’s common to receive 6-8 treatments.
During the procedure:
Acupuncture points are present all over the body. Sometimes the suitable points are situated far away from the area of pain. The practitioner will explain you the general site of the planned treatment and whether you need to change your clothing. You are asked to lie on a table for the treatment, which may involve:
Needle insertion: Small acupuncture needles are inserted at specific points in your body. The needles are very thin, so insertion causes little discomfort. Around 5 to 20 needles can be used in a typical treatment. You may feel a mild pain sensation when a needle reaches the correct depth.
Needle manipulation: Your practitioner may slowly move or twist the needles after placement.
Needle removal: Generally, the needles are left in the place for 10 to 20 minutes while you relax. There is usually no discomfort during needle removal.
